QIF to CSV converter.
Old Quicken files, into anything that imports today.
Drop a .qif file. Bank and credit-card transactions are read in your browser, shown in an editable table, and downloaded as CSV, Excel, QuickBooks .qbo or Xero CSV. Nothing is uploaded.

Quicken Interchange Format · read in your browser, never uploaded
How it works
- Drop the .qif. The !Type header decides whether the rows are treated as a bank account or a credit card.
- Each block ending in ^ becomes one row: D as the date, T (or U) as the amount, P, M and N joined as the description.
- If the dates could be day-first or month-first, choose one; the first date is shown both ways so you can tell.
- Fix any row in the table, set the currency, then download CSV, Excel, a .qbo for QuickBooks or a Xero CSV.
QIF details it handles
- Quicken's apostrophe years (3/ 4'26 means 4 March 2026 in US files) and two-digit years without one (12/31/99 is 1999).
- Amounts with thousands separators, and files that use U instead of T for the amount.
- Several account sections in one file: they are read in order into a single table.
- Records with an unreadable date or amount are listed with their line number rather than dropped.
About the format
QIF is a plain-text format from the 1990s, one field per line, each record closed by a caret. It has no header, no currency, no balances and no fixed date order, which is why importers dropped it. The QIF file format guide covers every field code and the differences between the Quicken versions.
Have a PDF statement instead?
Convert the PDF: the statement is read, reconciled against the printed balances, and the same downloads are produced. The first five pages are free without an account.

QIF questions
QuickBooks will not open my .qif file.
QuickBooks has not imported QIF for many years; it wants .qbo (Web Connect) or, for QuickBooks Online, a plain CSV. Drop the .qif here and download either one.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The QIF is parsed by JavaScript in this tab and the downloads are generated there. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Why are the years wrong, or the months and days swapped?
QIF has no fixed date format. Quicken in the US writes month/day/year and marks years after 1999 with an apostrophe (3/ 4'26); Quicken UK writes day/month/year. When the file could be read both ways the tool asks and shows what each choice means; when a date such as 25/03/2026 settles it, the order is set for you.
What happens to the category and account lists?
!Type:Cat, !Type:Class, !Type:Memorized and !Account blocks are skipped; only the transaction blocks (!Type:Bank, !Type:CCard, !Type:Cash, !Type:Oth A, !Type:Oth L) become rows. The L (category) line on a transaction is not carried over because QuickBooks and Xero apply their own rules on import.
What goes in the description?
The payee (P line), then the memo (M line) if there is one, then the cheque or reference number (N line) as #1042. Split lines (S, E, $) are not expanded; the transaction total from the T line is used.
Can the totals be checked?
QIF carries no balances, so nothing can be checked from the file alone. Type the opening and closing balances from your statement in the options and the tool checks opening + money in − money out against the closing balance, the same check the PDF converter runs.
