Convert UAE bank statements.
Checked to the fils, in AED.

Two things make UAE statements a converter problem rather than a copy-and-paste one: most banks send them as password-protected PDFs, and the corporate tax and VAT regimes now require years of records that many small businesses never kept in a ledger. The pages here explain the password step (it happens on your device), what the statements look like, and which export the common accounting packages want. The Worldwide providers below (PayPal, Stripe, Wise) are on this page because many UAE online businesses bank with them as well.

UAE banks with their own page

Any other UAE bank or card issuer works the same way; these are the ones people ask about. Each page covers how to download the PDF, what the statement looks like and where the bank's own export falls short.

How UAE statements are laid out

Dates are day first, DD/MM/YYYY, on every row. Amounts use a comma for thousands and a point for decimals, in Debit and Credit columns with a running Balance column, and card statements often print the original currency and amount beside the AED figure for foreign spend. Headings are frequently bilingual, Arabic beside English, and the transaction list itself is in English. Salaries arrive through the Wage Protection System and are described as WPS with the employer name; cheques, still common for rent and post-dated payments, appear as CHQ with the cheque number; and card, ATM and bank charges carry VAT as separate rows or as part of the charge line.

What to know before converting

  • Password-protected PDFs are unlocked in your browser before upload; the password is typically the CIF, card or account number the bank tells you about, and it never leaves your device.
  • Corporate tax records must be kept for seven years and VAT records for five, so the statement archive is the source when the ledger was never kept; a year at a time uploads as a batch with the continuity check between months.
  • Bilingual headings are read as the columns they label; the descriptions and amounts are unchanged.
  • Card statements print the foreign-currency amount for overseas purchases; the AED column is the one the totals are built on, and that is what the exports carry.
  • Bank exports from online banking cover a limited window and omit the opening balance; the PDF statement carries the figures the check needs.

Who asks for statements, and in what form

The Federal Tax Authority requires VAT records for five years and corporate tax records for seven, and asks for bank statements in a review; free-zone and mainland companies reconcile deposits to tax invoices for the quarterly VAT return. Banks ask for three to six months of statements for loans, mortgages and credit cards, landlords for tenancy, and residence and Golden Visa applications ask for statements as proof of income or savings. The bank's own PDF is what they want; the spreadsheet is for your books and your accountant.

Importing into Zoho Books, QuickBooks Online, Xero and others

United Arab Emirates questions

The bank PDF asks for a password. Do I have to send it to you?

No. When you drop a protected PDF the password prompt runs in your browser, the file is unlocked on your device, and an unlocked copy is what is uploaded. If you would rather not type it here, open the PDF in your viewer, print it to a new PDF and upload that; the result is the same.

Which export does Zoho Books want?

The plain CSV. Zoho Books imports bank statements from CSV and maps the columns on import, and it accepts a single signed amount column or separate withdrawal and deposit columns; the plain CSV has both, plus the running balance, so any mapping works. The Xero CSV and QuickBooks files are for those packages.

Can it read a statement with Arabic headings?

Yes. Bilingual headings are read as the columns they label, and the rows, which are in English with numerals and dates in the Western style, are read exactly as printed. The check does not depend on the heading language: the opening balance, rows and closing balance either agree or they do not.
