DocuClipper alternative: stmtai vs DocuClipper
DocuClipper is the best-known bank statement converter and a solid product. This page is for people comparing the two on the things that actually matter day to day: does the output balance, what does a page cost, and what happens when a statement is misread.
Side by side
| Feature | DocuClipper | stmtai |
|---|---|---|
| Reconciliation before download | Yes (balance summary on each conversion) | Yes, plus the first row that does not add up is highlighted and a one-click debit/credit swap is offered |
| Free trial | 14-day trial, no card | 5 pages free with no account, then 10 pages every month free with an account. Never expires. |
| Entry price | From about $20/month (billed annually) or $29 month-to-month, for 60 pages | $19 one-time for 100 pages that never expire ($0.19 a page) |

| Refunds | None once a paid period has started, including change of mind, non-use or dissatisfaction; the free trial is the evaluation. Annual plans billed monthly carry a 12-month commitment | Within 14 days of any payment, the pages you have not used are refunded in full. Just email us. An untouched purchase is refunded whole, a part-used one for the pages left. No annual lock-in; every plan is month-to-month. |
| Failed conversions | Not stated | Never charged; pages are returned automatically |
| Exports | Excel, CSV, QBO, Xero, direct push to QuickBooks/Xero; also invoices and receipts | Excel, CSV, QBO, Xero CSV, Tally XML, QuickBooks CSV. Statements only, no direct push yet. |
| API | Yes, on higher tiers | Yes, on every plan including Free: create, upload, poll, export. Same pages as the website, no separate API fee. |
| Email a statement in | No | Yes: email the PDF from your account address and get the Excel back by reply, with the balance verdict. |
| Categories | Yes (rule-based, configured per account) | A suggested category on every row from a fixed list of 22, editable in the table; a correction is remembered for that payee in your browser and applied to later statements. Included in Excel and CSV; QuickBooks and Xero files are left for their own rules. |
| See the original next to the table | Yes | Yes, opens on the page of the flagged row |
| Batch | Yes | Up to 12 files at once; one Excel with a sheet per statement and an Overview of which balanced. Statements of the same account are also checked against each other: each closing balance must match the next opening balance, and missing or duplicated months are flagged. |
| Your file after processing | Kept in your account for later access | Deletion starts when processing ends; lifecycle is the fallback; result expires after 7 days |

When DocuClipper is the better choice
- You also need invoices, receipts or brokerage statements extracted, or a direct push into QuickBooks/Xero without a file. DocuClipper does those; we only do bank and card statements, by file.
- You want a long history of past conversions in the tool. Ours are kept for 7 days by design.
- You need an established vendor with years of reviews for a procurement checklist.
When stmtai is the better choice
- You convert in bursts (tax season, catch-up bookkeeping) and do not want a monthly bill: the Pages Pack never expires.
- You have been burned by reversed debit/credit signs. We show the totals before download and let you swap.
- Price per page matters: at every tier you get roughly three to four times as many pages per dollar.
- You do not want statements retained by a third party.

Questions
Is stmtai as accurate as DocuClipper?
Neither tool asks you to trust an accuracy percentage; both reconcile against the printed balances. The difference is what happens when it does not balance: we point at the row and offer the fix.
Can I try both on the same statement?
Yes. Both have a free tier. Drop your statement here first: 5 pages need no signup.
Do you import DocuClipper exports?
There is nothing to import; both produce standard Excel, CSV and QBO files that work in the same accounting software.
