Convert Citi statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a Citibank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Citi statement as a PDF

  1. Sign on at citi.com and open the account.
  2. Click "Statements" (for cards it is under the account menu; for banking it is in the left navigation).
  3. Choose the statement period from the drop-down list.
  4. Click "Download" and save the PDF. Only one statement downloads at a time.
  5. In the Citi Mobile app, tap the account, then "Statements", then the period; the PDF opens and can be saved from the share sheet.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Citi statement PDFs are not password-protected in the US. Some Citi affiliates abroad do protect theirs, but that is a different portal.

What Citi statements look like

Checking and savings on one PDF, each with its own transaction list and balance summary.

Citi likes to put several accounts on one PDF: a Citigold or Citi Priority statement has a "Relationship Summary" on page one and then a "Checking Activity" and "Savings Activity" section for each account, each with Date, Description, Amount Subtracted, Amount Added and Balance columns. Because every account has its own opening and closing balance, the balance check runs per section. Dates are MM/DD and the year is on the statement period line. Card statements are laid out as "Payments, Credits and Adjustments", "Purchases", "Fees" and "Interest Charged" with a "Sale Date" and "Post Date" per row; we use the post date so the period totals agree. Page counts are modest, usually four to eight for banking and three to five for a card.

Where Citi statements trip up other converters

  • Checking and savings on one PDF: the balance check is per account, so if you need both, save each account section as its own PDF (Print → pages) for a clean tie-out.
  • Citi card statements (see the credit card note below) use the sign convention where payments reduce the balance.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Citi file.

Why not just use Citi's own export?

For deposit accounts Citi lets you download activity as a spreadsheet (CSV) for up to 180 days from the account activity page; the download opens in a pop-up, so if nothing happens it is your pop-up blocker. Credit card activity can be exported as CSV but not as QBO or QFX, which is a nuisance if QuickBooks Desktop is the destination. Either way, 180 days is half a tax year, and the export has no opening or closing balance. Statements are available online for 24 months on banking accounts and up to 7 years on cards, so once you need more than six months the PDF is what you have.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Citi questions

My Citi PDF has checking and savings in one file. Will the balances tie out?

Yes. The Checking Activity and Savings Activity sections are read as two accounts, each with its own opening and closing balance, so each ties out on its own and the result shows them side by side with a sheet per account in the workbook. The Relationship Summary page is not treated as an account. If a section were ever merged into another, printing each page range to its own PDF and uploading both gives the same result.

Citi will not give me a QBO file for my credit card. Is the PDF route any better?

It is the practical route. Convert the card statement and you get a spreadsheet with charges as debits and payments as credits, dated by posting date, which imports into QuickBooks Online through the CSV upload. The statement also carries the previous and new balance so you can confirm nothing was dropped, which the CSV export does not.

How do I convert a Citi statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Citi online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Citi template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Citi layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Citi statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Citi transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.

How many Citi statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
