How to download a Bank of America statement as a PDF
- Log in to Online Banking and go to the Accounts tab.
- Open the account, then click "Statements & Documents".
- Choose the statement period from the list. Checking, savings and cards are listed one account at a time.
- Click the statement to open it, then download the PDF from the viewer and save it.
- In the mobile app: tap the account, then "Statements & Documents", then the statement, then the share icon to save the PDF.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
No password on the PDFs. Bank of America relies on the login instead, so the file uploads as downloaded.
What Bank of America statements look like
PDF with "Deposits and other credits", "Withdrawals and other debits", "Checks" and "Service fees" sections, each subtotalled, followed by a daily ledger balance table.
Bank of America splits the month into "Deposits and other additions", "Withdrawals and other subtractions", "Checks" and "Service fees", each with its own total that feeds the account summary box on page one. The Checks section is the one that trips people: it is a compact grid, often two sets of Date / Check # / Amount columns side by side, and a converter reading left to right will interleave them. Amounts in the withdrawals section are printed with a leading minus, so double-negating them is the other common mistake. Dates are MM/DD/YY in full. The account number is printed in full on page one under the account title, and the "Daily ledger balances" table at the end lists a balance for every day with activity. Personal statements run four to eight pages; Business Advantage statements with a lot of checks can be twenty or more, and a single PDF may hold several accounts if you have combined statements.
Where Bank of America statements trip up other converters
- Checks are listed in a separate compact table with check numbers; we keep the check number in the description.
- Amounts in the withdrawals section are printed as negatives with a leading minus; some converters double-negate them.
- Long descriptions wrap onto a second line; we join them into one row.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Bank of America file.
Why not just use Bank of America's own export?
On the desktop site there is a Download link on the account activity page that lets you pick a date range and a format: CSV (labelled Microsoft Excel Format), QFX for Quicken or QBO for QuickBooks. It works, but it is the activity feed, not the statement, and the reach is limited (usually somewhere between 12 and 24 months depending on the account). The CSV has a single signed amount column, no running balance, and check numbers appear only in the description. The PDFs go back further, since Bank of America shows around 18 months of deposit statements online and lets you order older copies back to 7 years at no charge, and they carry the daily ledger balances that make a reconciliation possible.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Bank of America questions
Do the check numbers survive the conversion?
Yes. Rows from the Checks grid come out with the check number in the description, in the same date order as everything else, and the amount as a debit. If you import into QuickBooks the check number is there to match against your register.
My Bank of America PDF has checking and savings together. Can I split it?
You do not need to. Each account section has its own summary and its own daily balance table, and the converter reads them as separate accounts: the result shows one entry per account, each checked against its own beginning and ending balance, with one sheet per account in the workbook and separate QuickBooks and Xero files. If a section is missed, splitting the PDF with Print to PDF and a page range still works as a fallback.
How do I convert a Bank of America statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Bank of America online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a Bank of America template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Bank of America layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned Bank of America statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import Bank of America transactions into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.
How many Bank of America statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
