Convert Barclaycard card statements to QuickBooks.
Checked against the printed balances first.
Barclaycard's transaction export is CSV, OFX or QIF and carries neither the previous balance nor the new balance, so a month cannot be proved from it.

Download the card statement from Barclaycard
- Log in to Barclays Online Banking; personal Barclaycards are serviced there now rather than on a separate Barclaycard site.
- Click the Profile icon, choose "Manage documents and messages", then "Statements and documents".
- Select the Barclaycard account and the statement month; up to seven years of statements are listed for personal cards.
- Open the statement and save it as a PDF from the viewer.
- In the Barclaycard app (or the Barclays app if your card has moved across), go to "Statements and documents", pick the card and month and tap the download icon; on Android the file lands in the My files folder.
- Business cardholders use Barclaycard business online servicing, where "Statements" holds up to thirteen months and a separate transaction report download covers longer periods.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; each statement comes back as its own .qbo file.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
Barclaycard does not lock the statements you download from Barclays Online Banking or the app. We have not met a protected Barclaycard PDF; if one turns up, the upload box asks for the password and unlocks it in your browser before anything is sent.
Barclaycard and QuickBooks
Barclaycard's transaction export is CSV, OFX or QIF and carries neither the previous balance nor the new balance, so a month cannot be proved from it. The converted .qbo uses the credit card message set, so QuickBooks treats purchases and payments correctly, and CR-marked credits are read as credits before the file is written.
Barclaycard's help page says statements and transactions can be downloaded "in a range of formats" from Statements and documents, and in practice the transaction export on a card account mirrors the Barclays current account one: CSV, OFX or QIF for a date range you have searched. The online transaction view for a personal card reaches back about twelve months, so a longer history means the statement PDFs regardless. Business servicing is more fragmented: online servicing lists thirteen months of statements, the CentreSuite portal used for some commercial programmes shows six months of statements and twelve of transactions, and the reporting platform for larger programmes holds thirty-six months of data. None of these exports carries the previous balance, the interest split by balance type or the new balance, so a month cannot be proved from them. The monthly statement PDF has all three, back to seven years on personal cards.
Import into QuickBooks
- Drop the statement on the home page. Fix any flagged row (or swap debit/credit if the bank prints them reversed) until the badge is green.
- Click QuickBooks (.qbo).
- QuickBooks Online: Transactions → Bank transactions → Link account ▾ → Upload from file → choose the .qbo → pick the account → Next.
- QuickBooks Desktop: File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files → choose the .qbo → select the account.
- Review the imported transactions in the For Review tab and add them.
What usually goes wrong
- Credits are marked with a CR suffix, not a minus, so a plain number extraction reads a payment as a purchase; the previous-to-new balance check fails at once and the swap fixes the sign.
- Personal Barclaycards are now serviced inside Barclays Online Banking, so the statement list sits under the Barclays profile menu rather than on a separate Barclaycard site.
- Purchase and balance transfer balances are itemised separately, each with its own interest line; every interest line is a debit in the check like any other fee.
- Reversed signs: money out imported as deposits. The most common complaint about statement converters. We show you the totals and let you swap before export.
- Duplicate transactions on re-import because the FITID changes each time. Ours is derived from the row content, so the same statement always produces the same IDs.
- "QuickBooks found an error" on upload, usually from a missing INTU.BID, unescaped ampersands or a bad date. Check any .qbo with our free QBO checker.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Barclaycard file.
Already have a .qbo that QuickBooks rejects?
Run it through the free QBO checker. It reads the file in your browser (nothing is uploaded) and lists exactly what QuickBooks will object to: missing INTU.BID, duplicate FITIDs, bad dates, unescaped ampersands, sign mismatches.
Barclaycard and QuickBooks questions
What does CR after an amount on my Barclaycard statement mean?
CR marks a credit: a payment you made, a refund from a retailer or a reward credited to the card. Barclaycard uses the suffix instead of a minus sign, so on paper a £300 payment and a £300 purchase look identical apart from those two letters. stmtai reads the CR and books the row as a credit; if a file has come through with every row treated as a purchase the New Balance check fails straight away and the one-click debit/credit swap corrects the whole column.
My Barclaycard statement shows a purchase balance and a balance transfer balance separately. Is that two accounts?
One account, one New Balance. Barclaycard breaks the balance down by rate so you can see how much sits at the promotional rate and when it ends, and each part gets its own interest line. For bookkeeping all of it is a single card liability: the purchases are expense lines, the balance transfer arrival is a transfer between liabilities, and each interest line is an interest expense. The tie-out uses the single new balance at the top of the statement.
Does it work with QuickBooks Online and Desktop?
Yes. The .qbo is OFX 1.02 with the INTU.BID QuickBooks requires, which both accept. Desktop imports via Web Connect.
What if QuickBooks rejects the file?
Run it through the QBO checker at /tools/qbo-checker; it explains what QuickBooks objects to. If the issue is with a file we produced, email support with the conversion ID and we fix the reader.
Can I get Barclaycard transactions into QuickBooks without the bank's own export?
Yes. Download the card statement PDF from Barclaycard, drop it on this page and wait for the balance check, which compares the rows with the balances printed on the statement. Then download the QuickBooks file and import it with the steps above. No Barclaycard template is involved; the statement is read the way a person reads it, and the balance check is what tells you the rows are complete.
