Convert DBS statements to Xero.
Checked against the printed balances first.

IDEAL business users can export MT940 and CSV for an ongoing Xero feed; personal digibank users get a short download window with no running balance.

Drop your bank statements here

One file or a whole year. PDF, scanned image, CSV, QIF or OFX. Up to 12 files at a time; long PDFs are split for you.

5 pages free, no account. The Xero download appears on the results page.

Download the statement from DBS

  1. Log in to digibank Online. On the Home screen scroll down to eDocuments and click Show All.
  2. Choose eStatement, then filter by statement type (for example Current & Savings or Credit Card) and by year.
  3. Click the statement month and it opens as a PDF. Save it from the viewer. eStatements are monthly or quarterly only; ad hoc and weekly statements are still paper.
  4. In the digibank mobile app: tap More in the bottom bar, then eDocuments under Quick Access or Other Services, then eStatement, then the download icon on the month you want.
  5. DBS IDEAL (business): main menu, Accounts, select the account, then eStatements and the PDF icon. Or Reports > Account eStatements for the whole list.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; each statement comes back as its own .csv file.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

eStatements downloaded from digibank or IDEAL open without a password. DBS emails a notification that a statement is ready rather than attaching the PDF, so the file you upload will be the one you saved from the portal.

DBS and Xero

IDEAL business users can export MT940 and CSV for an ongoing Xero feed; personal digibank users get a short download window with no running balance. For history, converting the DBS eStatement gives Xero a CSV with money out negative, one currency section at a time on a Multi-Currency Account.

On an account page in digibank you can set a period and click Download to get a file that opens in Excel, with Transaction Date, Reference, Debit Amount, Credit Amount and reference fields under a header showing the ledger and available balance. The window is short: 6 months for current and savings accounts and only the previous two months plus the current one for other account types, and there is no running balance per row. eStatements, by comparison, are kept for 7 years from the month you enrolled in eDocuments, and a printed copy of anything older costs from S$20 to S$50 per month. IDEAL business users can export MT940 and CSV, which is the better feed for ongoing bookkeeping; for history and for the official record, convert the eStatement PDF.

Import into Xero

  1. Drop the statement on the home page and confirm the balance check is green.
  2. Click Xero.
  3. In Xero: Accounting → Bank accounts → the account → Manage Account → Import a Statement.
  4. Upload the CSV. Xero recognises the columns; confirm and import.
  5. Reconcile as usual. The statement balance in Xero should match the printed closing balance.

What usually goes wrong

  • For multi-currency accounts, convert one currency section at a time so each is checked against its own balance.
  • Xero's importer is strict about date format and stops on the first bad row; ours uses the format Xero documents.
  • Positive/negative convention: Xero wants money out negative. Bank PDFs print it positive in a "Withdrawals" column. We convert.
  • Missing statements create reconciliation gaps for years. Convert a whole year at once and the batch Summary shows which months balanced.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a DBS file.

DBS and Xero questions

Do DBS and POSB statements convert the same way?

Yes. POSB is a DBS brand and the statements come from the same system with the same columns, so the only difference you will notice is the logo and the account names. Note that POSB Passbook Savings accounts do not get eStatements at all; if a client has one of those, the transactions have to come from an updated passbook or the account has to be moved to POSB Everyday Savings first.

My DBS Multi-Currency Account statement has SGD, USD and other sections. How is that handled?

One currency per upload. Each section has its own brought-forward and carried-forward balance in its own currency, and the converter reads a file as a single statement in a single currency, so save the SGD pages and the USD pages as separate PDFs (Print to PDF with a page range) and convert each. The SGD file is then checked against the SGD balance and the USD file against the USD balance, and each lands in the right ledger account.

Why CSV and not OFX for Xero?

Xero imports CSV and OFX. CSV lets you see and fix descriptions before import, and it is the format Xero recommends for statements that did not come from a feed.

Can I import several months at once?

Yes. Convert up to 12 statements together and download the merged CSV, or one CSV per statement.

Can I get DBS transactions into Xero without the bank's own export?

Yes. Download the statement PDF from DBS, drop it on this page and wait for the balance check, which compares the rows with the balances printed on the statement. Then download the Xero file and import it with the steps above. No DBS template is involved; the statement is read the way a person reads it, and the balance check is what tells you the rows are complete.
