Getting started

Upload your first bank statement

How to convert a statement from the home page, what you see on the results page, and what the first conversion costs.

Last reviewed

Go to the home page and drop a statement on the upload box, or press Choose files and pick it. You can upload a PDF, a PNG or JPG image, or a CSV, QIF, OFX, QFX or TXT export from your bank. Each file can be up to 60 pages and 20 MB.

The box shows the file uploading, then reading. A typical statement takes 10 to 40 seconds. When it finishes you are taken to the results page.

What the results page shows

At the top you see the file name, the page count, the number of transactions found, and the bank name and last four digits of the account when the statement prints them.

Below that is the balance check. It adds up every row against the opening and closing balances printed on the statement and tells you whether they match. Green means balanced. Red means the numbers are off by a stated amount, and the first row that does not add up is highlighted so you know where to look. Grey means the statement did not print the balances needed to check. See What the balance check means.

Under the check is the transaction table: date, description, a suggested category, money out, money in and the running balance. Every cell can be edited by clicking it.

On the right is the Download panel with Excel, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV, Tally XML, plain CSV, a three-column QuickBooks CSV and a PDF reconciliation report. The files are built in your browser from the table on screen, so nothing extra is uploaded.

What it costs

Your first 5 pages are free with no account. After that, a free account gives you 10 pages every month. Each page of a PDF, or each image, counts as one page. If a file needs more pages than you have left, the page tells you how many it needs, nothing is charged, and the file is deleted. See What counts as a page and pricing.

If you would rather look before uploading your own data, open the sample result, which is a real results page with a made-up statement.
