Convert PNC statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a PNC Bank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a PNC statement as a PDF

  1. Sign on to PNC Online Banking and select Accounts.
  2. Open the account, then "Account Quick View".
  3. Select "Statements and Documents" from the Quick View options.
  4. Click "View PDF" beside the statement you want and save it.
  5. PNC Mobile app: from the bottom bar choose More, then "Statements and Documents", then "Online statements", then the account and year.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

PNC does not password-protect statement PDFs. The file you download is the file you upload.

What PNC statements look like

Activity detail split into Deposits, Banking/Debit Card Withdrawals, Online and Electronic Banking Deductions and Checks, plus a Daily Balance Detail table.

The transaction pages are headed "Activity Detail" and broken into "Deposits and Other Additions", "Checks and Substitute Checks", "Banking/Debit Card Withdrawals and Purchases" and "Online and Electronic Banking Deductions", each with a count and a total that ties back to the "Balance Summary" on page one. The checks block is a multi-column grid of check number, date and amount, with an asterisk marking a gap in the sequence. A "Daily Balance Detail" table follows the activity, and that is where the running balance lives; rows do not carry one. Dates are MM/DD. Virtual Wallet statements put Spend, Reserve and Growth on one PDF with a section for each, and each section has its own balance summary. Personal statements are four to eight pages; business checking with many checks runs longer.

Where PNC statements trip up other converters

  • Four or more debit sections; a converter that only reads the first misses most of the month. We read all of them and prove the total against the printed closing balance.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a PNC file.

Why not just use PNC's own export?

PNC has two exports and they do not overlap well. The Export button on account activity produces QFX or QBO through Web Connect, but users consistently report it only carries about 90 days no matter what date range the site shows. Older activity is available as CSV under Online Statements then Activity Detail, exported separately for deposits and withdrawals and, by most accounts, one month at a time. Rebuilding a year that way is 24 downloads with no running balance. PNC keeps 7 years of statements online for checking and savings (4 years for cards, 5 for mortgages), so past 90 days the PDF is quicker and carries the daily balances the CSV does not.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

PNC questions

My PNC QFX only imports 90 days into Quicken. Is that fixable?

Not from the QFX side; that is what PNC puts in the file. For older months download the PDF statements and convert those. You get one chronological list per statement, with deposits and withdrawals together and the daily balances checked, which is exactly what the Activity Detail CSV route makes you rebuild by hand.

Do Virtual Wallet statements convert as one account or three?

Three, once you split the PDF. Spend, Reserve and Growth each have their own Balance Summary and Activity Detail on the statement, so print each account's pages to its own PDF and upload the three together; each is then checked against its own balances. If you only book the Spend account, upload just those pages.

What does the asterisk next to some check numbers mean?

PNC marks a break in check sequence, meaning a check number between this one and the previous one has not cleared yet. It is informational and we drop it from the check number so the number imports cleanly.

How do I convert a PNC statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from PNC online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a PNC template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so PNC layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned PNC statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import PNC transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.

How many PNC statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
