How to download a U.S. Bank statement as a PDF
- Log in to usbank.com and select Accounts from the top menu.
- Choose the Document type (Statements), then the account from the drop-down.
- Change the document year if you need something older; up to seven years is listed.
- Click the statement link and save the PDF from the viewer.
- U.S. Bank Mobile App: open the main menu, choose "Statements & docs", then "E-statements", then the account and year.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
Unprotected. U.S. Bank e-statements download as plain PDFs with no password step.
What U.S. Bank statements look like
Separate "Other Deposits", "Card Withdrawals", "Other Withdrawals" and "Checks Paid" sections with subtotals, then a balance summary.
U.S. Bank spells out its dates, so rows read "Jul 14" rather than 07/14, and the statement period on page one reads the same way. The account number is printed with hyphens in the page header. Activity is grouped into "Other Deposits", "Card Withdrawals", "Other Withdrawals" and "Checks Presented Conventionally" (a compact grid with check number, date, reference and amount), each with a subtotal, and a "Balance Summary" table at the end lists the ledger balance by date. There is no balance on the transaction rows, so the summary table is what we verify against. Silver and Gold personal checking statements are typically three to six pages; Business Essentials and Platinum Business statements grow with card activity but rarely pass twenty.
Where U.S. Bank statements trip up other converters
- Several debit sections with their own subtotals; each subtotal is checked against its rows before the whole statement is reconciled.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a U.S. Bank file.
Why not just use U.S. Bank's own export?
Transaction downloads are on the full website only, not in the app: open the account, click the download icon in the Transactions tile, pick a date range and choose Spreadsheet (CSV), Quicken (QFX) or QuickBooks (QBO). U.S. Bank states the limit plainly: 18 months of history, and anything older exists only on the statements. Within that window the QBO is fine for a bank feed catch-up. The CSV lacks a running balance and puts check numbers in with the description, so for anything you will hand to a reviewer, or for a period older than 18 months, converting the PDF is the better option.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

U.S. Bank questions
U.S. Bank shows seven years of statements. Does it matter how old the PDF is?
Not much. The layout has been stable for years, and older statements from the same portal convert the same way as this month's. If you ordered a copy of an older statement and received a scan, that converts too; just review a scan's figures a little more closely than a native PDF.
Why do the dates in my spreadsheet look different from the statement?
The statement prints "Jul 14" and the spreadsheet gives you a proper date, 07/14/2026, with the year taken from the statement period. This is deliberate: QuickBooks, Xero and Excel need a real date, and a text month would sort wrongly.
How do I convert a U.S. Bank statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from U.S. Bank online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a U.S. Bank template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so U.S. Bank layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned U.S. Bank statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import U.S. Bank transactions into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.
How many U.S. Bank statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
