How to download a Chase card card statement as a PDF
- Sign in at chase.com, open the card from the accounts list and click "Statements" in the row of links under the balance (the three-line Main Menu also has it under Statements & documents).
- Pick the card from the account drop-down at the top of the statements page, then the year; each billing cycle is listed by its closing date.
- Click the statement date to open the PDF, or the download arrow beside it to save without opening.
- Repeat for each card you hold: Sapphire, Freedom and Ink accounts each have their own statement list even when they share a login.
- In the Chase Mobile app, tap the card, then the "Statements" link near the top of the activity screen, choose the cycle and use the share button to save it. Ink cards appear in the same app once the business profile is linked.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
Chase card statement PDFs are not encrypted, whether personal Sapphire and Freedom or business Ink. A locked one was protected by whoever forwarded it; the upload box asks for that password and unlocks the file in your browser.
What Chase card statements look like
One "ACCOUNT ACTIVITY" table with a single Date of Transaction column, split into PAYMENTS AND OTHER CREDITS, PURCHASE, FEES CHARGED and INTEREST CHARGED blocks, with an ACCOUNT SUMMARY box on page one and year-to-date fee and interest totals after the rows.
A personal Chase card statement runs three to five pages. Page one carries the payment box (New Balance, Minimum Payment Due, Payment Due Date) and the ACCOUNT SUMMARY, which lists Previous Balance, Payment, Credits, Purchases, Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Fees Charged, Interest Charged and New Balance, plus the Opening/Closing Date of the cycle. The tie-out is previous balance minus payments minus credits plus purchases plus cash advances plus balance transfers plus fees plus interest equals new balance. Page two onward is ACCOUNT ACTIVITY: one table headed Date of Transaction, Merchant Name or Transaction Description and $ Amount, with PAYMENTS AND OTHER CREDITS first, then PURCHASE, FEES CHARGED and INTEREST CHARGED, each with a total. There is no post date column; dates are MM/DD with the year on the summary line. After the rows come YEAR-TO-DATE TOTALS for fees and interest and an INTEREST CHARGES table by balance type. Sapphire Reserve statements show the annual travel credit as a credit line, Freedom statements add a rewards summary, and Ink Business statements group the rows by cardmember with a subtotal per employee card. Statements are kept online for up to seven years, closed cards included while the login still works.
Where Chase card statements trip up other converters
- Purchases print as positive figures and payments as negatives, the reverse of the sign convention in the Chase CSV download; when a file comes through flipped, the previous-to-new balance check fails on the first row and the debit/credit swap puts it right.
- Only a transaction date is printed, so a purchase made in the last days of the cycle can appear on the following statement; the Account Summary totals decide which statement it belongs to.
- Ink statements with employee cards list rows under each cardmember; the name is kept in the description and the check still runs against the single New Balance.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Chase card file.
Why not just use Chase card's own export?
On the card's activity page there is a download icon above the transaction list, labelled "Download account activity" when you hover. You choose a statement period from a drop-down or set a custom range, then a format: spreadsheet (CSV), Quicken (QFX) or QuickBooks (QBO). The card CSV is better than most, with Transaction Date, Post Date, Description, Category, Type (Sale, Payment, Return, Fee) and Amount columns. Two things catch people. The signs are the reverse of the printed statement: purchases are negative in the CSV and positive on the PDF, so a spreadsheet built from both will not add up. And the file is a transaction list with no Previous Balance or New Balance to check against, and it reaches back roughly two years at most; third parties report a cap of about a thousand rows per file, which Chase does not publish, so treat that as varying. For a month you need to prove, or for statements older than the activity window, the PDF is the file to convert.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Chase card questions
Why does the Chase CSV show purchases as negative when the printed statement shows them as positive?
The CSV uses a cash-flow sign, money leaving you is negative, while the statement uses the card's own view where a purchase adds to what you owe. Both are right in their own frame, but mixing the two in one sheet breaks the arithmetic. stmtai reads the statement convention and, if a file arrives with the signs the other way round, the New Balance check fails on the first row and the one-click debit/credit swap flips the whole column so the statement ties again. The QuickBooks export is written as a CREDITCARD message set, so charges land as card debits and payments as credits without any editing in QuickBooks.
A purchase I made on the 28th is not on this month's Chase statement. Is a row missing?
Almost certainly not. Chase prints only the transaction date, but the statement is built on what posted before the Closing Date shown in the Account Summary, and a purchase from the last day or two of the cycle often posts after it. Convert the following statement and the row will be there, dated the day you made it, inside the next cycle's Purchases total. If you convert consecutive statements together the New Balance of one is the Previous Balance of the next, which is the quickest way to prove nothing was dropped between them.
Can I put my Sapphire, Freedom and Ink statements through as one account?
Each card is a separate liability with its own New Balance, so convert them as separate statements and keep three card accounts in your books. Employee cards on an Ink account are the exception: they are one liability and one statement, so the cardmember grouping stays in the description rather than becoming separate files. Uploading all three cards in one batch is fine; each is checked against its own summary and the results sit side by side.
How do I convert a Chase card card statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Chase card online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a Chase card template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Chase card layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned Chase card statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import Chase card transactions into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.
How many Chase card statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
