How to download a Citi card card statement as a PDF
- Sign on at citi.com and choose the card from the account tiles on the dashboard.
- Open the "Statements" tab on the card page; some layouts label it "Statements & Documents" in the account menu.
- Choose a statement date from the list; the most recent twelve months open straight away as PDFs.
- For anything older, use "Request previous statements", tick the months you need and wait for the email; the requested PDFs stay in the list for about seven days before they have to be requested again.
- Click the download icon and save the file, one billing cycle per PDF.
- In the Citi Mobile app: tap the card, scroll to "Statements", pick the cycle and use Share or Save. The same twelve-month window applies in the app and older cycles are requested there or on the website.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
US Citi card statements download as open PDFs with no password. The locked PDFs some people meet come from Citi's consumer portals in other markets; if that is what you have, type the password when the upload box asks for it and the file is unlocked on your device.
What Citi card statements look like
Sale Date and Post Date on every row, with activity split into "Payments, Credits and Adjustments", "Standard Purchases", "Fees Charged" and "Interest Charged", and an Account Summary that walks previous balance through to new balance.
A Citi card statement is three to five pages on a roughly thirty-day cycle. The Account Summary on page one lists Previous balance, Payments, Credits, Purchases, Cash advances, Fees, Interest and New balance, alongside a box giving Total fees charged and Total interest charged for the calendar year to date. Every transaction row has a Sale Date and a Post Date, both MM/DD, then Description and Amount, and the rows are grouped under "Payments, Credits and Adjustments", "Standard Purchases", "Fees Charged" and "Interest Charged". Payments and refunds print with a leading minus; purchases have no sign. Accounts with authorized users repeat the section headings under each cardholder's name, which is where the CSV's Member Name column comes from. Co-branded cards add a page: the Costco Anywhere Visa shows Costco Cash Rewards by category, AAdvantage cards show miles earned, and neither panel contains an amount that moves the balance. Custom Cash statements add a note showing which category earned the higher rate that cycle. Twelve months of statements are available immediately online and older ones back to seven years arrive within a few days of being requested.
Where Citi card statements trip up other converters
- Two dates per row and the totals are built on the post date; a row booked on its sale date near a cycle boundary will not tie to the New Balance, which is where the check flags it.
- Payments and refunds carry a leading minus while purchases are unsigned, so a converter that treats every figure as a charge overstates the balance and fails the tie-out.
- Co-branded cards (Costco, AAdvantage) add a rewards panel that looks like a table; it carries no amounts that move the balance and does not become rows.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Citi card file.
Why not just use Citi card's own export?
The card's activity page has a Download link with an "Activity Since Last Statement" drop-down, which lets you pick a closed statement period or set a custom date range. CSV is always offered; Quicken (QFX) and QuickBooks (QBO) have appeared and disappeared for card accounts over the years and are not reliably there, so treat them as varying by card. The card CSV has Status, Date, Description, Debit, Credit and Member Name columns, which makes it handy for splitting spend by authorized user. Against that, it has a single date rather than sale and post dates, it includes pending rows with a Status of Pending, and it carries no Previous Balance or New Balance, so you cannot prove a period from it. Statements themselves reach back seven years on request, far beyond what the activity download covers, and the PDF is what you convert when the numbers have to agree with what Citi printed.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Citi card questions
The Citi statement I need is eighteen months old and not in the list. Do I have to phone?
No. The list shows the last twelve months; anything older is fetched with "Request previous statements" on the same page, which covers up to seven years. Citi emails when the PDFs are ready, usually within a few days, and they then sit in the statements list for about a week before dropping off. Request everything you need in one go, download the lot while the window is open, and convert them as a batch.
Which date does the Citi Account Summary work from, Sale Date or Post Date?
Post Date. The Purchases figure in the summary is the sum of everything that posted inside the cycle, regardless of when the sale happened, so a purchase with a Sale Date of the 29th and a Post Date of the 1st belongs to the next statement. stmtai uses the Post Date for the row and keeps the Sale Date in the description. If you rebuild the sheet on Sale Date the New Balance will not tie, and the check will point at the row that crossed the boundary.
My Costco Anywhere Visa statement has a rewards table with dollar figures. Will those be counted as transactions?
They should not be, and if a converter did count them the previous-to-new balance check would fail by exactly that amount. The Costco Cash Rewards panel is a summary of what you have earned this cycle and year to date; no money has moved on the card. The annual reward certificate is issued separately in February and is not a credit on the statement either. Only the rows under the four activity headings are transactions.
How do I convert a Citi card card statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Citi card online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a Citi card template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Citi card layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned Citi card statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import Citi card transactions into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.
How many Citi card statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
