Convert Citizens statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a Citizens Bank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Citizens statement as a PDF

  1. Sign in at citizensbank.com and pick the account from the Accounts overview.
  2. Open "Statements" in the account navigation; older profiles label the same place "Statements & Documents" or "Document Center".
  3. Choose the account and the statement date from the list. Only accounts enrolled in online statements show a full history here.
  4. Click the statement to open the PDF viewer and use its download control to save the file.
  5. Citizens Mobile Banking app: open the menu at the top left, tap "Statements", choose the account and month, then use the share sheet to save the PDF.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Citizens statement PDFs are not password-protected; the file you save is the file you upload. A copy sent by a branch may arrive through a secure email portal, which is a login step and not a PDF password.

What Citizens statements look like

Checking statements group activity under headings such as Deposits & Credits, Checks, Debit Card Purchases and Other Withdrawals, each with a subtotal, and finish with a daily balance table rather than a balance on every row.

A Citizens personal checking statement is usually four to eight pages, cycling on a calendar month for most products, with the "Statement Period" and account number in the header of page one. Activity is grouped under headings such as "Deposits & Credits", "Checks", "Debit Card Purchases" and "Other Withdrawals", each with a count and a subtotal that feed the account summary box. Checks are a grid of check number, date and amount, ordered by number. Rows print MM/DD with no year, and most layouts have no balance beside the transactions; a daily balance table at the end lists the ledger balance for each day with activity, and that table is what the check reconciles against. How long statements stay online varies by account and enrollment date; eighteen months is the figure most people report, with older copies available on request. Business checking follows the same shape with more check pages, and combined statements list each account in turn with its own summary.

Where Citizens statements trip up other converters

  • Several debit sections share one month, so a total that lands short by exactly one section subtotal means a heading was skipped; the balance check reports the gap at the first row after the missing block.
  • Checks appear in a compact grid sorted by check number, not by date, and merge back into the dated list on conversion.
  • Dates print as month and day only, with the year taken from the statement period on page one.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Citizens file.

Why not just use Citizens's own export?

Citizens supports Web Connect: from the account summary page there is an "Export" icon, and from account history a "Download Account Data" button, each offering Quicken, Quicken for Mac and QuickBooks files. A spreadsheet option appears on some profiles and not others, and Citizens does not publish how far back the download reaches; in practice it is the recent activity window, not the statement archive. None of these files carry the opening or closing balance or the section subtotals, so you cannot prove a month from the download alone. For catching up a bank feed the QuickBooks file is fine; for a year of back work, or to hand a reviewer something that ties, convert the statements.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Citizens questions

Why is there no balance next to each transaction on my Citizens statement?

Citizens prints the running balance once per day in the daily balance table rather than on each row. The conversion works forward from the beginning balance through every row and compares the result at each date with the printed daily figure, so the output has a balance on every line and a mismatch is reported at the day where it first appears.

The Citizens QuickBooks download only gave me recent months. How do I get last year?

Web Connect reaches back only as far as the online activity window, and Citizens does not commit to a number of months. Older periods exist only as statement PDFs. Download those from the Statements list, convert them, and use the .qbo export; each file then imports into QuickBooks through the same Web Connect route the bank's own download used.

Do the checks in the grid come out in date order?

Yes. The grid is sorted by check number on the statement, but each entry carries its own posting date, and the output puts checks back into the dated sequence with the number kept in the description. The subtotal under the grid is compared with the sum of the check rows before the whole month is reconciled.

How do I convert a Citizens statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Citizens online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Citizens template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Citizens layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Citizens statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Citizens transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.

How many Citizens statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
