Convert CommBank statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a Commonwealth Bank (CommBank) PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a CommBank statement as a PDF

  1. Log on to NetBank on a desktop browser and click the account name from the accounts overview.
  2. Select Statements. The list shows every issued statement for that account, newest first.
  3. Pick the statement period you want and click the download arrow next to it.
  4. Save the PDF. NetBank names it after the account, so rename it with the period if you are collecting a run of months.
  5. In the CommBank app: Accounts, tap the account, then Manage and View statements. Open the statement, tap the share icon and Save to Files.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

CommBank statement PDFs are not password-protected. They open straight away and can be uploaded as downloaded.

What CommBank statements look like

Date, Transaction, Debit, Credit, Balance with "$" suffix and CR/DR markers on the balance.

A CommBank transaction account statement lists Date, Transaction, Debit, Credit and Balance, with an Opening balance line at the top of the first page and a Closing balance at the end. Dates in the body show day and month only, with the year taken from the statement period in the header, so a statement that crosses 31 December needs the year inferred correctly. The Balance column carries a CR or DR suffix rather than a minus sign; an overdrawn everyday account reads as, say, 250.00 DR. Everyday accounts are statemented monthly or quarterly depending on the product, and a busy month runs three to five pages. Card statements use a different layout with a Transaction Date and a Posting Date.

Where CommBank statements trip up other converters

  • DR/CR balance markers are read so an overdrawn balance is negative, and the check still ties out.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a CommBank file.

Why not just use CommBank's own export?

NetBank exports a transaction list as CSV, OFX or QIF from the Export link above the transactions, and the CSV does include a running balance, which is more than some banks manage. The catch is scope: the export is capped at around 600 transactions and two years, it only works on desktop (the app has no export), and the CSV arrives without a header row. For anything older, or when the figures need to match the issued statement rather than a filtered feed, the PDF is the document to convert. Statements are kept in NetBank for up to seven years.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

CommBank questions

Why do the dates on my CommBank statement have no year?

CommBank prints only day and month against each transaction and states the period once in the header. The converter reads the period dates and assigns the year to each row, rolling over when the month sequence goes from December to January. Check the first and last rows after converting a statement that spans a year end.

My balance went overdrawn mid-statement. Does DR come through correctly?

Yes. A DR suffix on the Balance column is treated as a negative balance and a CR suffix as positive, so the running check still ties from the opening figure to the closing one. In the Excel output the balance is a plain signed number with no suffix.

Is the NetBank CSV good enough instead of converting the PDF?

For the last few months, usually yes. It has a balance column and imports cleanly into Xero or MYOB once you add headings. Past two years, or beyond 600 rows, it stops, and it will not match the issued statement line for line, which is what an accountant or lender asks for.

How do I convert a CommBank statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from CommBank online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a CommBank template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so CommBank layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned CommBank statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import CommBank transactions into Xero?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including MYOB.

How many CommBank statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
