Convert Up statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a Up (Up Bank) PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Up statement as a PDF

  1. Open the Up app and tap the Up tab (your profile) at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Find Statements in that tab. In recent builds it sits under Documents; the label has moved between releases, so look for either word.
  3. Choose the account (Spending, a Saver, or a 2Up account) and the statement period, then tap the statement to open it.
  4. Use the share sheet to save the PDF to Files or send it to your computer. Up has no website banking, so the app is the only route.
  5. For a data export instead: open the Activity feed, tap Insights above the monthly header, scroll to the bottom and tap Export transactions, checking the selected period with the Switch button first.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Up statement PDFs are not password-protected. They save from the app share sheet and upload as they are.

What Up statements look like

App-generated quarterly PDF with an opening balance, total money in, total money out and closing balance, then transactions in date order with the payee as shown in the app; Savers and 2Up accounts are separate statements.

Up statements are quarterly, so one PDF covers three months of a Spending account and, with card purchases most days, runs to ten or more pages. The summary block gives an opening balance, total money in, total money out and a closing balance, and the body lists each transaction in date order with the payee or merchant as it appears in the app; round-ups and ATM operator fees show as their own lines. Whether a running balance is printed against every row or only in the summary varies between statement versions, and the check works either way, adding the rows from the opening figure and comparing the result with the printed closing balance. Dates are day-first. Savers and 2Up accounts are statemented separately from Spending, and the issuer named at the foot is Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, whose BSB the account carries. Everything is electronic; there is no paper statement to request.

Where Up statements trip up other converters

  • Round-ups appear as a debit on Spending and a credit on the Saver; converting each account separately keeps both sides and neither looks duplicated.
  • The Up CSV has Subtotal, Fee, Round Up and Total (AUD) columns; Total (AUD) is the figure that moved the balance, and a file built on Subtotal will not agree with the statement.
  • No running balance in the CSV or OFX export; the statement PDF is the file with figures to check against.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Up file.

Why not just use Up's own export?

Up's export is a CSV per month from the Insights screen, and it is unusually wide: Time, BSB / Account Number, Transaction Type, Payee, Description, Category, Tags, Subtotal, Currency, Subtotal (Transaction Currency), Fee (AUD), Round Up (AUD), Total (AUD), Payment Method and Settled Date. Total (AUD) is the figure that moved the balance, Subtotal is not, and Tags is itself a comma-separated list inside a field, which trips up a naive import. There is no running balance and no opening figure, so nothing in the file proves it is complete. Up also offers an OFX export from the same place, which Xero and MYOB take directly. For a month that has to agree with the bank's record, convert the statement PDF.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Up questions

Which column in the Up CSV is the actual amount, Subtotal or Total (AUD)?

Total (AUD). It is Subtotal plus Fee (AUD) plus Round Up (AUD), and Up describes it as the full effect on your balance. Subtotal alone misses the round-up that went to your Saver, so a CSV built on it will not agree with the statement. If you upload the CSV rather than the PDF, that is the column to point at for the amount.

My Up round-ups appear on the Spending statement and again on the Saver. Is that a duplicate?

No. A round-up is a transfer: money out of Spending and the same amount into the Saver, so it belongs on both statements, once on each side. Convert each account's PDF separately and the Spending file shows the round-up as a debit while the Saver file shows it as a credit. Only if the same amount shows twice on the same account should you suspect a duplicate.

Up only exports one month of CSV at a time. Is there a quicker way to get a year?

The quarterly statement PDFs. Four of them cover a financial year, each with its own opening and closing balance, and uploading them together lets the closing figure of one quarter be matched to the opening figure of the next. Twelve monthly CSVs would have to be stitched by hand and still carry no balance to check against.

How do I convert a Up statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Up online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Up template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Up layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Up statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Up transactions into Xero?

Yes. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including MYOB.

How many Up statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
