Checked to the cent.

Drop a Discover PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Discover card statement as a PDF

  1. Log in at discover.com and select the card account from the Account Center.
  2. Open "Activity & Statements" from the account menu, then the "Statements" tab.
  3. Choose the statement closing date from the list of billing periods.
  4. Click the PDF or download link for that period and save the file.
  5. Discover Mobile app: tap the card, then "Statements", pick the period and use the share sheet to save the PDF.
  6. Discover Bank checking and savings statements live under the bank account rather than the card; open that account and look for its Statements link.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Discover card and bank statement PDFs carry no password. They open as downloaded, and the same is true of the year-end summary PDF issued each January.

What Discover statements look like

Card statements open with an Account Summary and a Cashback Bonus box, then list Payments and Credits ahead of Purchases, each row with a Trans. Date and a Post Date; Discover Bank checking and savings use a plain dated table with a balance.

A Discover card statement runs three to five pages. Page one carries the Account Summary, laid out as Previous Balance, Payments and Credits, Purchases, Balance Transfers, Cash Advances, Fees Charged, Interest Charged and New Balance, alongside a Cashback Bonus box showing the balance earned and redeemed. The transaction section lists Payments and Credits first, then Purchases, then any Fees and Interest Charged, with a Trans. Date and a Post Date on each row in month/day form and the year on the statement period line. Payments and credits print with a minus sign while purchases are unsigned positives. The tie-out is Previous Balance plus Purchases plus Fees plus Interest minus Payments minus Credits equals New Balance. Discover Bank statements for Cashback Debit and Online Savings are a different document with a running balance column. Paperless customers commonly see several years of statements online; the exact count varies, and since Capital One completed its purchase of Discover in 2025 the portal may move, so download what you need while it is where you expect it.

Where Discover statements trip up other converters

  • Payments print with a minus sign and purchases as plain positives, which is the reverse of a bank account; the debit/credit swap fixes the whole sheet in one click if it comes out backwards.
  • Cashback Bonus redeemed as a statement credit appears in Payments and Credits and is money in, not a purchase reversal.
  • Two dates per row; the Post Date is the one the New Balance is built from, so that is the date on the row.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Discover file.

Why not just use Discover's own export?

From "Activity & Statements" you can download card activity for a date range as CSV or Excel, with Trans. Date, Post Date, Description, Amount and a Category column. Discover withdrew its Quicken and QuickBooks Web Connect files in 2022, so there is no QFX or QBO to download and QuickBooks Desktop users have to import a CSV or convert. How far back the activity download reaches varies by account and is worth checking before you rely on it. The CSV also lacks the Previous Balance and New Balance, so it cannot show whether a period is complete. Converting the statement PDF gives you those figures and a .qbo export in the CREDITCARD form QuickBooks expects for a card.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Discover questions

Discover took away the QuickBooks download. What replaces it?

Convert the statement PDF and use the .qbo export. It is written as a CREDITCARD message set, which is what QuickBooks Desktop and Online expect for a card account, so charges land as spend and payments as money in without remapping. You also get the Previous and New Balance to confirm the period is complete, which the retired Web Connect file never carried.

How do I record a Cashback Bonus redemption from a Discover statement?

When redeemed as a statement credit it prints in Payments and Credits with a minus sign, and the sheet shows it as money in on the card. Book it to other income or as a reduction of the expense category it offsets, depending on your policy; do not net it against a purchase row. Redemptions to a bank account do not appear on the card statement at all.

Does the Capital One purchase change how I read a Discover statement?

Not the statement itself so far; the layout, the section names and the Cashback Bonus box are unchanged on the PDFs. What may change is where you log in to fetch them as accounts migrate, so pull the history you need now. If a later statement arrives in a Capital One layout, convert it the same way and the balance check will still tie.

How do I convert a Discover card statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Discover online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Discover template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Discover layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Discover statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Discover transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.

How many Discover statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
