Checked to the cent.

Drop a Fifth Third Bank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Fifth Third statement as a PDF

  1. Log in at 53.com and open the Documents section from the main navigation.
  2. Choose Statements, then the account, then the statement date you need.
  3. Click the statement to open the PDF and save it. There is no download-all, so a year is twelve separate saves.
  4. Do this in a desktop browser if you can; the app shows statements but saving the file is less reliable there.
  5. In the Fifth Third mobile app, open the account and tap the Statements tab, pick the month, then share the PDF to save it.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Fifth Third eStatements are plain PDFs with no password. They open in any reader and upload as they are.

What Fifth Third statements look like

An Account Summary block per account (Beginning Balance, Number of Days in Period, Checks, Withdrawals / Debits, Deposits / Credits, Ending Balance) followed by Withdrawals / Debits, Deposits / Credits and Checks sections and a Daily Balance Summary.

Fifth Third cycles end mid-month; a personal statement might run from the 22nd to the 19th or the 16th to the 15th, and the header gives both dates in full while the rows print MM/DD. Each account starts with an Account Summary block headed with the account number that lists Beginning Balance, Number of Days in Period, a count and total of Checks, Withdrawals / Debits, Deposits / Credits and Ending Balance. Debits are printed in parentheses, for example $(2,395.47), which is the convention throughout. Below the summary come the Withdrawals / Debits section, the Deposits / Credits section and a Checks section of Number, Date and Amount with an asterisk where a number is skipped, then a Daily Balance Summary of Date and Amount pairs. There is no balance on transaction rows. A personal checking statement is around four pages; a 5/3 Business Standard Checking statement is longer and may list a Relationship Manager in the header. Fifth Third keeps 24 months of statements online, less than most large US banks.

Where Fifth Third statements trip up other converters

  • Debits are printed in parentheses, such as $(2,395.47); a converter that drops the parentheses treats them as deposits and the closing balance is off by twice the withdrawals.
  • Several accounts share one PDF, each with its own Account Summary; the balance check is per account, so the pages for one account go in one file.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Fifth Third file.

Why not just use Fifth Third's own export?

Fifth Third online banking lets you download account activity for a date range as a Quicken (QFX) or QuickBooks (QBO) Web Connect file or as a comma-separated file, and the bank publishes Web Connect setup guides for Quicken and QuickBooks. The window is tied to the transaction history available online, which Fifth Third describes as up to 24 months; the bank does not state a separate cap for the download. The export gives you posted transactions with a signed amount and nothing else: no beginning balance, no ending balance, no daily balance, and the Checks are not separated from other debits. Since the statement archive is also 24 months, neither route reaches further back, so save the PDFs while they are still online and convert those when you need the balances.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Fifth Third questions

Fifth Third prints withdrawals in parentheses, like $(45.00). Are they read as negative amounts?

Yes. Parentheses are an accounting negative and are read as money out, so those rows land in the debit column. If any were misread as positive the beginning balance plus credits minus debits would overshoot the printed Ending Balance by twice the amount, and the check would stop at the first row where the running total went wrong.

Only 24 months of Fifth Third statements are online. What do I do for the year before that?

Ask Fifth Third for copies through customer service or a branch; they can retrieve older statements, sometimes for a fee, and what comes back is often a scan rather than a native PDF. A scan converts too, but read the result a little more carefully than you would a downloaded statement. The better habit is to download each statement when the monthly email arrives so the archive on your side never depends on the 24 month window.

My Fifth Third PDF covers a checking and a savings account. One upload or two?

Two. Each account has its own Account Summary and its own Ending Balance, and the check runs against one pair of balances at a time. Print the pages for the checking account to one PDF and the savings pages to another (each section starts at its own Account Summary block, which makes the page ranges easy to spot), then upload both.

How do I convert a Fifth Third statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Fifth Third online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Fifth Third template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Fifth Third layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Fifth Third statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Fifth Third transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.

How many Fifth Third statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
