Convert RBC statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a RBC Royal Bank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a RBC statement as a PDF

  1. Sign in to RBC Online Banking. From the Accounts Summary page, select Statements/Documents at the top right.
  2. Under Your Documents on the left, choose Account Documents. Business clients land on the Account Balances page first and see Account Documents and Fee Statements here.
  3. Use the dropdowns to pick the account and the statement period. Only accounts set to electronic delivery are listed.
  4. Select the statement and it opens as a PDF. Save it with the download icon in the viewer.
  5. In the RBC Mobile app: tap More in the bottom bar, then Statements under Services, then the account and the month.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

RBC eStatement PDFs open without a password. There is nothing to strip before uploading.

What RBC statements look like

Date, Description, Withdrawals ($), Deposits ($), Balance ($) with an opening and closing balance line.

A monthly RBC chequing statement runs two to four pages for a personal account and often six or more for a small business with cheques, because RBC appends a page of cheque images at the end. Columns are Date, Description, Withdrawals ($), Deposits ($) and Balance ($), with an Opening Balance line at the top and a Closing Balance at the bottom of the table. Dates are shown as day and short month with no year, so the statement period in the header is what fixes the year. Cheques appear as "Cheque - 0123" with the number, e-Transfers as "e-Transfer sent" or "e-Transfer - Autodeposit", and the monthly fee sits on its own line near month end. A US dollar account gets its own statement, and the amounts on it are in USD even though the layout looks identical.

Where RBC statements trip up other converters

  • Cheque images pages at the end are ignored; only the transaction table is read.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a RBC file.

Why not just use RBC's own export?

On an account page in Online Banking there is a Download link above the transaction table. It offers a CSV plus Quicken and Microsoft Money formats for accounting software, but only for recent activity, which is a problem when the file you actually need is last March. The download also carries no opening or closing balance and no running balance, so there is nothing to tie the rows to. eStatements go back up to 7 years, so for anything older than the current quarter, or for a period you want to reconcile properly, the PDF is the right source.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

RBC questions

My RBC statement has cheque images on the last pages. Do those end up in the spreadsheet?

No. Only the transaction table is read, so the image pages are skipped. The cheque number still comes through from the description line in the table, which is where you want it for matching against your cheque register.

Can I get more than the last few months from the RBC transaction download instead of converting PDFs?

Not in any useful way. The Download option on the account page is built for feeding accounting software with recent activity and does not reach back the way the eStatement archive does. For a full fiscal year, downloading the twelve PDFs and converting them is faster than fighting the date picker, and you get the balances to check against.

Does an RBC business account statement convert the same way as a personal one?

Yes. The table layout is the same set of columns. The differences are volume, more cheque and image pages, and that business clients reach the archive from the Account Balances page rather than Accounts Summary. Business Fee Statements are a separate document and are not bank statements, so leave those out of the batch.

How do I convert a RBC statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from RBC online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a RBC template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so RBC layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned RBC statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import RBC transactions into QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Sage 50.

How many RBC statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
