Convert Scotiabank statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.
Drop a Scotiabank PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Scotiabank statement as a PDF
- Sign in to Scotia OnLine and select the account from the home screen.
- In the side navigation under Account, select Statements.
- Choose a single month to download it, or use Download all as PDF to get every statement for the current year in one go.
- Switch years with the dropdown to reach older statements. Up to 7 years are kept.
- Save the PDF. In the Scotia mobile app the path is the same: open the account, then Statements.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
Scotiabank does not lock its eStatement PDFs. No password is needed to open or upload them.
What Scotiabank statements look like
Date, Transactions, Amounts withdrawn from your account, Amounts deposited to your account, Balance.
Scotiabank uses the longest column headings of the Canadian banks: Date, Transactions, Amounts withdrawn from your account, Amounts deposited to your account, Balance. That wording is why the Balance column is what everything is checked against, row by row. Descriptions stack two lines, with a type such as Point of Sale Purchase or Interac e-Transfer From on the first and the merchant or sender on the second. Dates are month and day in short form, year in the header. A Basic Business Account statement is typically three to five pages, the monthly fee appears as a single Monthly Fee line, and a Scotia US Dollar account produces its own statement in the same layout.
Where Scotiabank statements trip up other converters
- Very long column headers; the balance column is used to verify every row.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Scotiabank file.
Why not just use Scotiabank's own export?
From an account page you can pick a statement period, scroll to the bottom until "Current statement period total" shows, then use the download icon for a CSV or a QuickBooks file; a Quicken QFX option is also there, which is what Scotiabank points MS Money users at. Transaction history online reaches back to January 2018, with 45 days shown by default, so you can build older exports if you are patient with Load more. What the export does not give you is the balance after each transaction or the period opening figure, and Scotiabank itself notes the QuickBooks download is being reworked. Where the running balance matters, or you want a year in one pass, Download all as PDF plus conversion is less effort.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever QuickBooks Online imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Scotiabank questions
I used Download all as PDF and got a single file with twelve statements. Will that work?
Separate files are what you want. Depending on the browser, Download all as PDF gives you twelve monthly files or one combined PDF. Twelve files upload as a batch and come back as a sheet per month with a continuity check between them. If you got the combined file, split it by month (each statement starts on a fresh page with its own summary box) before uploading, because a single file is read as a single statement.
Are the two-line descriptions kept as two lines?
No, they are joined into one description per transaction so each row is one line in the spreadsheet. The transaction type stays first and the merchant or payee follows it, which reads the way you would type it into a ledger.
Does the ScotiaConnect business platform export differently?
Yes. ScotiaConnect is the commercial platform and has its own reporting with CSV, fixed-width text and Excel exports, going back 24 months. Small-business clients on regular Scotia OnLine do not see that; they get the same Statements page and download icon as personal clients, and the PDF route is the same for both.
How do I convert a Scotiabank statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Scotiabank online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a Scotiabank template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Scotiabank layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned Scotiabank statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import Scotiabank transactions into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Google Sheets.
How many Scotiabank statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
