Convert Barclays statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a Barclays PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Barclays statement as a PDF

  1. Log in to Barclays Online Banking and choose 'Manage accounts', then 'Statements and documents' (older layouts show this as 'My Barclays documents' under your profile).
  2. Pick the account. Statements are listed newest first, one per statement date.
  3. Click the PDF icon next to the month you want. It opens in the browser viewer; use the download arrow or 'File > Save as' to keep a copy.
  4. In the app: tap 'Help/More' on the home screen, then 'Statements', pick the account and month, and use Share or Save to get the PDF onto your device. Business customers see a 'Statements' tile directly on the home screen.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Barclays statement PDFs open without a password. If one asks for a password it came from somewhere else, most likely a broker or letting agent who protected it before forwarding.

What Barclays statements look like

Date, Description, Money out, Money in, Balance table with the balance printed on every row; day/month dates.

Barclays prints a 'Your transactions' table headed Date, Description, Money out, Money in, Balance, with the balance shown on every line and a 'Start balance' and 'End balance' bracketing the period. Dates are day and abbreviated month with no year on the row, so the year is taken from the statement period at the top. Card purchases carry the merchant plus a date the purchase was made, which is often a day or two before the row date. Personal accounts usually run to two or three pages a month; business accounts with card terminals can hit ten. Overdrawn balances are printed with a D suffix rather than a minus sign.

Where Barclays statements trip up other converters

  • UK date order (day first) is detected from the statement period so 03/04 is not read as March 4th.
  • Long references like "FASTER PAYMENT REF …" are kept whole in the description.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Barclays file.

Why not just use Barclays's own export?

Online Banking has an 'Export All' link at the foot of the transaction list, offering CSV, OFX or QIF for whatever date range you have searched. The range only reaches back a few months, so a full year means several passes, and the CSV has no running balance and no opening figure to check against. Barclays also lists 'Statements and documents' back to July 2013 for accounts that were paperless from then. For anything older than the export window, or when you want the balance column to prove the rows add up, the PDF statement is the file to work from.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Barclays questions

Why does the balance column on my Barclays statement have a D after some figures?

D means the account was overdrawn on that line. Barclays does not use a minus sign in the balance column. stmtai reads the D and writes the balance as a negative number in Excel, so running totals and any bank rules that check for overdrafts work as expected.

My Barclays card payments show two dates. Which one goes into the spreadsheet?

The date in the Date column is the posting date and is what the balance moves on, so that is the transaction date in the export. The date inside the description (for example a purchase made on a Saturday that posted on the Monday) is left in the description text. If you need the purchase date separately you can split it out with a formula, but for reconciliation the posting date is the right one.

I have a Barclays Business statement and a personal one. Are they laid out the same?

Close enough that both convert the same way. The business version adds an account summary panel and, for some accounts, a separate page listing cheques presented. Those extra pages are recognised as summaries and not turned into transaction rows.

How do I convert a Barclays statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Barclays online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Barclays template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Barclays layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Barclays statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Barclays transactions into Xero?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Sage.

How many Barclays statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
