How to download a Lloyds statement as a PDF

  1. Log in to Lloyds Internet Banking and click the account you want.
  2. Above the transaction list choose 'Statement options'.
  3. Choose the download option and pick the statement month from the list.
  4. Use the download icon above the transactions (or your browser's save option) to save the PDF.
  5. In the Lloyds app: open the account, tap the three-dot menu, choose 'Download or print statement', pick the month and save it. The app gives you at least ten years of statements, which is more than most banks.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

Lloyds does not lock its statement PDFs, and neither do Halifax or Bank of Scotland, which share the same platform.

What Lloyds statements look like

Date, Payment type, Details, Money out, Money in, Balance; also covers Halifax and Bank of Scotland layouts.

A Lloyds statement opens with 'Balance brought forward' and closes with 'Balance carried forward', and those two lines are the check figures for the whole month. Columns are Date, Payment type, Details, Money out, Money in, Balance, with a balance printed on every transaction line. Payment type is a three-letter code: DEB for debit card, FPO and FPI for Faster Payments out and in, DD, SO, TFR, BGC for bank giro credit, CHG for charges. Dates run as 03 Mar 26. Halifax and Bank of Scotland statements are the same table with a different logo, and the three are handled by the same reader.

Where Lloyds statements trip up other converters

  • "Balance brought forward" and "carried forward" rows are used as opening/closing balances, not as transactions.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Lloyds file.

Why not just use Lloyds's own export?

Under 'Statement options' there is also 'Export transactions', which produces a CSV or QIF for a chosen period. The period is limited to about three months per file and the export lists transactions only: no opening balance, no running balance, and the type column (DEB, FPO, DD and so on) is separate from the description. It is fine for a quick look at recent spend. For year-end work, or for anything past the export window, the monthly PDF gives you the same rows with the balances attached and the dates in the statement's own format.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Lloyds questions

Should 'Balance brought forward' and 'Balance carried forward' appear as transactions in Excel?

No. Those two lines have no amount in Money out or Money in; they are the opening and closing balances. stmtai uses them to verify the month and writes them into the summary section of the sheet rather than into the transaction rows, so they will not be imported as bogus entries into your accounts package.

I bank with Halifax. Do I use the Lloyds converter?

Yes. Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Lloyds statements are produced by the same system and share the Date, Payment type, Details, Money out, Money in, Balance layout. Upload any of them here and the output will be the same shape.

What does the Lloyds 'Payment type' column turn into?

The code (DEB, FPO, DD, SO, TFR, BGC, CHG) is placed at the start of the description so it survives the import. If you want it in its own column, Text to Columns on the first space in Excel splits it off in one step, and the suggested category column already does most of the sorting the code was for.

How do I convert a Lloyds statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Lloyds online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a Lloyds template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Lloyds layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned Lloyds statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import Lloyds transactions into Xero?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Sage.

How many Lloyds statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
