Convert Monzo statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.
Drop a Monzo PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a Monzo statement as a PDF
- Open the Monzo app and tap 'Home'.
- Tap the three dots under your account card.
- Choose 'Bank statements' from the menu that appears.
- Set the date range. Monzo lets you choose any start and end dates, not just whole months.
- Pick PDF (or CSV or QIF if you want those instead) and confirm. The file goes to your phone's share sheet, from where you can save it or send it to yourself.
- For a Pot, open the Pot, tap 'Pot documents', then 'Pot statement'. Pot statements are listed after the main account statement.
Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.
Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?
Statements you export from the app are not locked. The one exception is the final statement Monzo emails when an account is closed, which is password-protected with the password sent by text to your registered mobile.
What Monzo statements look like
App-exported PDF or CSV. PDF has Date, Description, Amount (signed), Balance; CSV has category, notes and tags too.
A Monzo PDF is a single clean table: Date, Description, Amount, Balance, with the amount signed rather than split into in and out columns and a balance on every line. The period and opening and closing balances are stated at the top, and because you chose the dates yourself they can be a tax year or a single week. Monzo Business statements look the same but pull in the invoice or customer reference more often. Pot statements are separate documents showing only transfers in and out of that Pot. Dates are day month year in full and the PDF is generated on request, so the file is dated the day you asked for it.
Where Monzo statements trip up other converters
- Both PDF and CSV are accepted. The CSV keeps Monzo categories in the description for easy rule-based coding in Xero.
None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a Monzo file.
Why not just use Monzo's own export?
Monzo produces CSV and QIF alongside the PDF, from the same screen and for the same custom date range, which is unusually generous. The CSV includes category, notes and tags columns and a signed amount, and there is no history cut-off for open accounts. What it does not have is a running balance on each row, so you cannot see the account position after every transaction, and the description is split across name and reference fields. Convert the PDF when you need the balance column or when a lender or accountant wants the figures to match the statement they were sent.
What you get back
- A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
- Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
- Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

Monzo questions
Monzo Pots: do I need one statement or several?
The main account statement shows transfers to and from each Pot as single lines but not what happened inside the Pot. If you only need the current account for bookkeeping, one statement is enough. If a Pot earns interest or is used to hold VAT or tax, download that Pot statement separately and convert it as its own account so the interest lines are captured.
Should I upload the Monzo CSV or the PDF?
Both are accepted. The CSV keeps Monzo categories, which can be useful for setting up rules, but it has no balance column. The PDF carries the running balance and is the document most accountants and lenders expect to see. If you are reconciling, use the PDF; if you want categories, use the CSV, or run both and compare.
Monzo's amounts are one signed column. Will they be split into Money in and Money out?
Yes. Negative amounts go to Money out and positive to Money in, and the balance column is carried across unchanged. The split makes the sheet match the layout of the high street banks so several accounts can be pasted together.
How do I convert a Monzo statement PDF to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Monzo online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.
Do I need a Monzo template?
No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so Monzo layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.
Does it work with scanned Monzo statements?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.
Can I import Monzo transactions into Xero?
Yes. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including FreeAgent.
How many Monzo statements can I convert at once?
Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.
What happens to my statement?
It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
