Convert TSB statements to Excel.
Checked to the cent.

Drop a TSB PDF and get a clean spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file in seconds. Every row is checked against the balances printed on the statement, so a misread is flagged, not hidden.

How to download a TSB statement as a PDF

  1. Log in to TSB Internet Banking and click "Your Inbox" at the top right of the screen; this is the Digital Inbox where TSB delivers statements and letters.
  2. Find the statement for the account and month you want; each one is a separate PDF entry, listed newest first.
  3. Open it and use the download or save option in the viewer to keep a copy on your computer.
  4. In the TSB Mobile Banking app, tap the inbox icon to open the Digital Inbox, pick the statement and use Share to save the PDF to your device.
  5. TSB says it never alters or removes items from the Digital Inbox, so statements build up from the point your account went paperless; anything from before that is a copy statement request by phone or in branch.

Then drop the file above. Several months at once is fine; a year comes back as one workbook with a sheet per month.

Before you upload: is the PDF password-protected?

TSB statement PDFs taken from the Digital Inbox open without a password on the ones we have handled. If yours is locked it was protected after download; take the password off and upload the unlocked copy.

What TSB statements look like

Date-ordered table with separate money out and money in columns, a running balance and day-first dates; statements issued before the 2018 platform change use the older Lloyds-style headings.

TSB statements are issued monthly for current accounts and land in the Digital Inbox as one PDF per account per month, typically two to four pages. The table is date-ordered with separate money out and money in columns and a running balance, and dates are written day first. There are two generations of layout in circulation. Statements from before TSB moved off the Lloyds platform in 2018 use the Lloyds-style headings of Date, Payment type, Details, Money out, Money in, Balance, with three-letter type codes; statements since then use TSB's own template, where the type is written into the description and card payments carry the merchant and a card reference on one line. A five-year run for a mortgage application or a tax enquiry will therefore change shape part way through, and the balance check is the thing that stays constant across both. Closed accounts are entitled to five years of history, supplied on paper, which TSB warns can run to sixty pages or more. Business current account statements follow the same pattern with the business name in the header. Savings statements are shorter and, for some products, annual.

Where TSB statements trip up other converters

  • Two generations of layout exist, so a five-year run of statements changes shape part way through; the balance check does not care which one it is reading.
  • Card payments show the merchant and a card reference on the same line, which can push the amount onto the next line in a text extraction; a row with no amount fails the check and is flagged.

None of this is bank-specific configuration. The balance check catches these cases for every bank; this list just explains what you will see on a TSB file.

Why not just use TSB's own export?

From the account transaction list in Internet Banking there is an export at the foot of the list offering CSV or QIF for a date range you choose. Third-party guides put the cap at about ninety days or 150 transactions per file; TSB's own help pages do not state a figure, so treat the limit as varying and expect to run several exports for a year. The file is a transaction feed rather than the statement: no opening balance, no closing balance and no statement totals, and the descriptions are the online versions. Business Internet Banking has the same export with the same limits. The Digital Inbox, by contrast, holds every statement issued since the account went paperless with nothing removed, so for a period that has to agree with what TSB printed the statement PDF is the file to work from.

What you get back

  1. A green Balanced badge when the printed opening balance plus money in minus money out equals the printed closing balance, row by row. Or a red one pointing at the first row that does not add up, with a one-click swap if debit and credit look reversed.
  2. Click any misread cell, correct it, and the check re-runs before you download.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo), Xero CSV or Tally XML, whichever Xero imports best, with a suggested category on every row.

TSB questions

My older TSB statements look nothing like the recent ones. Do they convert the same way?

They do. TSB changed its statement template when it left the Lloyds platform in 2018, so anything earlier has the Lloyds-style Payment type and Details columns and anything later has TSB's own layout. stmtai has no per-bank templates to switch between; it reads whichever columns are printed, then checks that the opening balance plus money in minus money out lands on the printed closing balance for both styles alike. The output columns are identical for the two generations, so the sheets join without editing.

TSB posted five years of history to me on paper after I closed the account. Is that usable?

Yes, once it is scanned. Copy statements for closed TSB accounts arrive by post rather than as PDFs, so you scan the pages and upload the scans. Expect to read the flagged rows more carefully than on a native PDF, because a smudged digit in a scan is the usual reason a running balance breaks; the check points at the row, you correct the cell, and the rest of the statement carries on from there.

Where has the TSB export gone? I cannot find a CSV button anywhere.

It is at the bottom of the transaction list for the account, not in the Digital Inbox and not under statements. Set the date range first, then look below the last transaction for the export link, where CSV and QIF are offered. If the range you set is too long the export is cut, so if the file ends early that is the cap rather than a fault. For a full year with balances attached, the statement PDFs in the Digital Inbox are the better source.

How do I convert a TSB statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from TSB online banking or the app, drop it on this page, and wait about 10 to 40 seconds. You get every transaction in a table, a balance check against the printed opening and closing balance, and Excel, CSV, QuickBooks, Xero and Tally XML downloads. The first 5 pages are free with no account.

Do I need a TSB template?

No. The statement is read the way a person reads it, so TSB layout changes do not break anything. What protects you is the balance check: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the printed closing balance, row by row.

Does it work with scanned TSB statements?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and phone photos are read visually. Blurry pages may produce a flagged row; the check tells you exactly which one to look at.

Can I import TSB transactions into Xero?

Yes. Download the .qbo file and use Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or Web Connect import in QuickBooks Desktop. For Xero, download the Xero CSV and use Import a Statement on the bank account. Excel and CSV work everywhere else, including Sage, FreeAgent.

How many TSB statements can I convert at once?

Up to 12 files at a time, 60 pages each. A year of monthly statements comes back as one Excel workbook with an Overview sheet showing which months balanced, a sheet per month with a Category column, and a Categories sheet totalling the year by category.

What happens to my statement?

It is processed once and deletion is attempted as soon as processing finishes; an AWS lifecycle rule removes anything left behind. The extracted table becomes eligible for deletion after 7 days (1 day without an account). Nothing is used for training.
